ASPIRE@RGU Resource Lists for Students: Guide

The library's online resource list service (ASPIRE@RGU) is available to help you find the books, journal articles and other resources you are expected to use for your module.

ASPIRE@RGU online resource lists have lots of great features including:

  • Are accessible from your module on CampusMoodle
  • Gives easy access to online resources directly from the list making it quick and easy to get to what you need
  • Gives information about how many print copies we have and where to find them

Explore the rest of the guide to find out how to access the lists and what they offer for you.

Finding your list

If your module has a list available on ASPIRE@RGU you can find it in two ways.

Through your module on CampusMoodle

When you access your modules on CampusMoodle if a list is available then a link will be available in the column on the right e.g.

Click the link and you will be taken to the resource list for that module. If no link is available then there may be no ASPIRE@RGU list for that module.

By searching or browsing ASPIRE@RGU

You can also search or browse ASPIRE@RGU directly. Start by going to the home page (also linked above). Then:

  • To search - type in the module name or module number and then click Search
  • To browse - click Browse hierarchy then pick the subject area then scroll through the list of modules and choose the relevant module

If there is a list available it will either appear in a results list after searching or when you click through to the module when browsing.

Signing in

Once you have located your list it is a good idea to sign in. The Log In link can be found on the purple bar, simply click it and enter your RGU username and password when prompted.

Signing in to ASPIRE@RGU when you first access the reading list will allow you to link in to the electronic resources without the need to sign in to each one individually and give you access to some additional features.

Main list features

Your main ASPIRE@RGU list will include some core information about each item on the list such as title, author, date, and item type.

In addition the list may be organized into sections that will help you locate the material you want to read and have a table of contents to help you navigate.

You may also see some extra information such as importance levels telling you if the item is essential, recommended, optional or suggested for purchase and notes that give you information about the list.

To find out more about any of the items click the title. This will take you to a bigger record that will give you more information about the resource.

If the item you are looking at is a print book this page will also give you information about library availability:

The full record page may also give you, if available, a link to Amazon and a Google books preview.

Accessing online resources

One of the most useful features of an ASPIRE@RGU list is that it makes it much easier to access eBooks, online journal articles, and digitised readings.

Accessing eBooks

You can access eBooks by clicking the online resource button from the main list:

Or by following the Access the eBook button when looking at the larger record.

If you are not already logged in you will be prompted to enter your RGU username and password and you will then be taken to the eBook.

Accessing online articles

If an article is available online you will see the online resource button on the main list. When you click it you may be taken directly to the article (after being prompted to log in) or you may be taken to our Full Text @ RGU service:

If you are taken to the Full Text @ RGU page follow the information on the screen to locate the article.

Accessing digitised readings

At times a book chapter or journal article may have been digitised to make it easier for you to access. With these resources when you click the online resource button you will be take in to the record to access the reading. Simply scroll down to find this message:
